How to Recover MikroTik Router RB750Gr3 from Failed Firmware Upgrade Using Netinstall

Prerequisites:

  1. Netinstall Utility: Download and install the Netinstall netinstall64-6.49.11.zip utility from the MikroTik website (https://mikrotik.com/download/archive).
  2. Firmware Image: Download the correct firmware image for your MikroTik RB750Gr3 router from the MikroTik website.                                                      I used   routeros-mipsbe-6.49.11.npk  from MikroTik website (https://mikrotik.com/download/archive).Note :- Its recommended use the same version of Netinstall utility as firmware.
  3. Ethernet Cable: Ensure you have an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to the router Ethernet port Ether1 or WAN port.
  4. Power Adapter: Make sure your router is connected to a power source.
  5. PC IP Address : Configure your PC LAN IP address as 192.168.88.2 /24  and Netinstall Netboot IP address 192.168.88.3.

Steps to Recover MikroTik Router RB750Gr3:

  1. Prepare Your Computer:
    • Disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer.
    • Connect your computer to the MikroTik router using an Ethernet cable with router EthernetPort 1.
    • Disable all network adapter except the port which is connected to router very important.
  2. Open Netinstall:
    • Open the Netinstall utility on your computer.
  3. Configure Netinstall:
    • Click on the “Net booting” tab in Netinstall.Mikrotik Netinstall
    • Give the IP address .
    • netboot ip
    • Click OK
  4. Connect Router:
    • Power off your MikroTik router.
    • Press and hold the “Reset” button on the back of the router.
    • While holding the “Reset” button, power on the router.
    • Continue holding the “Reset” button until the Netinstall utility detects the router.
  5. Reinstall Firmware:
    • Once Netinstall detects the router, release the “Reset” button.
    • Click on the “Install” button in Netinstall to reinstall the firmware on the router.
    • Wait for the firmware installation process to complete. This may take a few minutes.
  6. Reboot Router:
    • After the firmware installation is complete, the router will reboot automatically.
    • Wait for the router to fully boot up and then check if it is functioning normally.
  7. Restore Configuration:
    • If your router was previously configured, you may need to restore the configuration from a backup file.
